ILS Professional Library
The ILS Professional Library houses curriculum support materials and resources that enhance professional growth and school improvement including print, non-print, and digital resources.  It includes an extensive video and DVD collection along with the required public performance rights for classroom use.  Elementary textbooks and audio-visual equipment are also available.  Resources are selected to support and enrich the curriculum and to nurture a commitment to faith as members of the Catholic community.

  • Resources from the Professional Library are available to Regina Catholic staff.  As well, inter-library loan requests may be made to any school library within the division.  Home-based educators have restricted borrowing privileges with the Professional Library and their home-school libraries.
  • The Professional Library and school library collections are accessible through a global and fully automated Union Catalogue.
  • School access is available from any workstation through the Mandarin M3 OPAC (on-line public access catalogue).
  • Home access is available through the Mandarin Web OPAC.  Refer to the Mandarin Web OPAC Brochure for important searching information.

School Library Programming
The school library and the teacher-librarian are critical in supporting student achievement and learning.  No longer simply repositories for resources, Regina Catholic Schools libraries are the “great rooms” of the schools.

  • Literacy development is the cornerstone of our school libraries.  They promote the enjoyment of reading, viewing, and listening.
  • Students and teachers have access to reading materials, to print and digital information resources, and to information technology.
  • Our school libraries are home to dynamic instructional programs that connect with the educational programs of the schools.
  • Through collaborative partnerships, teacher-librarians and classroom teachers design, implement, and assess resource-based learning opportunities that support Saskatchewan curriculum outcomes and student achievement.
  • Our libraries prepare students for the future by developing the abilities and skills necessary to become information literate and technologically literate.

Digital Resources
The Regina Catholic school library is the ultimate search engine!  Students can explore the world wide web, participate in virtual field trips, chat with experts, experience the inauguration of the first African-American president, and keep current by reading magazines, newspapers and e-books.  Access to quality online databases and encyclopedias is provided through system-based licensing and the Saskatchewan Multitype Database Licensing Program.

  • Check out Resources Online for a listing of licensed databases and links to quality educational websites.
  • Assess to licensed resources is limited to Regina Catholic workstations.  Home access to these resources and additional, reliable databases is provided through the Regina Public Library

Centralized Cataloguing Services
The Information and Library Services department provides cataloguing and processing services for the schools and acquisition services for the elementary schools.  It hosts an annual display of peer-reviewed school library resources.
