Academic Supports

Regina Catholic Schools provides academic support to students experiencing difficulty at both the elementary and high school levels. Qualified teachers with specialized training can provide resources, strategies and programs to help increase academic achievement.

Learning Resource Program

The Elementary Learning Resource Program provides support to students with learning difficulties within their neighbourhood school. Support may be delivered in small groups or within the classroom.

The Learning Resource teacher assesses the student's strengths and weaknesses and keeps track of academic progress. The Learning Resource teacher also acts as a resource for parents and classroom teachers, suggesting strategies and classroom adaptations that can make a difference for student success. Academic, social and life skills development are the focus of the Learning Resource Program. Support is both collaborative and consultative, involving parents at every opportunity in the programming choices and support for their children.

Regina Catholic Education Center staff and outside agencies provide additional support to the school-based team comprised of the principal, classroom teacher, and the Learning Resource teacher.

High School Learning Resource Program

The Learning Resource Program recognizes that students may experience academic difficulty and that most students can be successful in regular high school classes when provided with additional assistance. Each high school has a Learning Resource Teacher with specialized training who works directly with students. The teacher also acts as a resource for parents and classroom teachers, suggesting strategies and classroom adaptations.

The emphasis for Learning Resource support is in the core areas of English language arts and mathematics. The students may also receive assistance in areas such as tutorial support, test-taking strategies, time management, and study skills. Technology supports are available within each high school to assist with reading and writing skills.
