Alternative Placement
Regina Catholic Schools works with parents and students to help adolescents who have been out of school for a period of time to return to school. Transitional placement services are also provided for students who are experiencing difficulties within their present school and may require an alternative setting for a period of time to address personal or academic issues.
Regina Catholic Schools encourages all students to manifest respectful, responsible behaviour that benefits them and others. Students who exhibit needs in the social, emotional, and behaviour areas require supports and programs to help them grow and become successful, competent and self-confident learners. The school division supports their growth in areas of self-control, anger management, goal setting, trust, adaptability and responsibility.
Most behavioural issues in the schools are addressed collaboratively and successfully with the teacher, principal, and parents. However, in some situations, further support is required and can be accessed through two programs at St. Luke School. More intensive support is provided by teachers and counsellors with specialized training. Transportation to and from the elementary programs are provided by the school division.
The Teaching Appropriate Behaviour (TAB) Program is offered at St. Luke School. It is a short-term behavioural intervention program for students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 who are experiencing difficulty managing their behaviour. In consultation with parents, students are referred to the program from the home school. This is a 12-week program that builds in close contact with the home school on a weekly basis to help ensure the student‘s successful transition back to the home school.
The Supportive Learning Environment (SLE) Program is also offered at St. Luke School. It is a behavioural intervention program for students in Kindergarten to Grade 8 with more complex behavioural difficulties. In consultation with parents, students are referred to the program from the home school. A partnership with Saskatchewan Health provides on-going specialized support.
The Quiet High School (QHS) Program is a high school program for students who may be experiencing social and/or emotional challenges and require an alternate setting. Students are typically involved witha physician and other outside support. The students may experience better success in a small school setting with a program more tailored to their needs. Students complete high school credits through government correspondence courses and/or directly from a teacher. Teacher support is provided for both types of classes. Not all classes offered in a mainstream high school are available at St. Luke. For this reason, some QHS students take courses at their home high school and at St. Luke.
Exceptaion Needs Creating Opportunties Related to Education (ENCORE) is a high school program offered for students who are facing challenges in a mainstream high school. It is also a program which meets the needs of students who may have been away from school for a period of time. Once students inthe ENCORE program are stabilized, they are encouraged to re-enter their home high schools on a full-time or part-time basis. Students complete high school credits through government correspondence courses and/or directly from a teacher. Teacher support is provided for both types of classes. Not all classes offered in a mainstream high school are available at St. Luke. For this reason, some ENCORE students take courses at their home high school and at St. Luke.
Students who are unable to attend school may access Outreach. Students complete coursework; either correspondence courses or teacher directed courses at home. They communicate with the staff at St. Luke School. These students are able to access teacher help when needed.
