In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Today at 10:28 am today we mark the winter solstice – the shortest day of the year. From today onwards the darkness will become shorter and the light longer and winter will give way to the new life of spring.
In a similar way, when we celebrate Jesus' birth in a few days, the darkness of hopelessness gives way to the growing light of love, hope, peace and joy! The universe celebrates with us a new life.
As we approach Christmas,
Our preparations are nearly ready.
Let us consider how you and I are like that poor stable into which Jesus is to be born,
How we need the light of the child Jesus to dawn in us.
God of love and hope,
Make me ready to receive your gift.
My heart be like a manger where you soon will be placed -- open and welcoming.
May my good deeds be the straw upon which you rest,
For I am preparing to be the stable into which you will be placed:
May it be warm to welcome you,
May it be simple in its devotion,
May it be peaceful in its spirit,
Oh Jesus, welcome to my heart.
We conclude with our Advent Prayer:
God's hope to direct me.
God's love to surround me.
God's joy to warm me.
God's peace to comfort me.
Bless our Advent journey to Christmas with light and patience,
As the darkness begins to fade we continue our day in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
