International Day of Democracy Friday

September 15

Note: On this page there are 2 prayers, one for Democracy, and another for the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Today we will celebrate United Nations International Day of Democracy.

Let us be grateful that we live in a country that upholds democracy and pray for the countries that are struggling to become countries that live in a democratic way.

Once again let us remember in our prayers people who lost loved ones in wars and violence throughout our world

In this letter to the Corinthians St. Paul writes:

I know what it is like to work hard and to live dangerously.
I've been beaten up more times than I can remember, been in more than one prison, and faced death more than once.
I've been shipwrecked three times; and once I was adrift and out of sight of land for twenty-four hours.
I don't know how many roads I've tramped.
I've faced bandits; I've been attacked by fellow-countrymen and foreigners. I've met danger in city streets and on lonely roads and out on the open sea. I've been in some tight corners - but never worried.

I've lost my way, but never my courage.
I've been on the run, but never abandoned.
I've been knocked down, but never knocked out.
This is nothing I can't face; but I know where my strength comes from - it comes from Jesus." (2 Cor. 11:23-28)

Let us conclude our prayer with the words that Jesus taught us:

Our Father,

Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done,

on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those

who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen

Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows

Friday

September 15

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Today is another Feast of Mary.  We remember the many sufferings Mary had in her life.  The feast is called Our Lady of Sorrows.

God, our Creator,

You give us the light of a new day.

May our lives be lived as a blessing

of goodness, truth and beauty.

Lighten the cares of our hearts

with a good sense of humor

today and every day,

now and forever.

Amen.

Listen to this teacher's prayer about the new school year:

Loving God,
Thank you for bringing me my classroom of children to teach this year.
Help me guide them each day, into learning all your wonders.
Be with us as we share the adventures and challenges of learning and growing together.
Forgive us when we get frustrated and tired along the way, and show us how to stay focused on your mission for each of us.
In all we say, in all we do, in all we feel...we worship you.

Let us pray with the words that Jesus taught us:

Our Father,

Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done,

on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those

who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

We close in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
