Memorial of the Holy Martyrs
Wednesday, September 20
Note: This evening is also the beginning of the Jewish feast of Rosh HaShanah: the Jewish New Year!
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Today we remember the Korean martyrs Saints Andrew Kim Tae-Gon, Paul Chong Ha-Sang, and Companions who died defending our faith.
In Marks' Gospel we hear about Jesus' great love for children.
People were bringing little children to Jesus in order that he might touch them; and the disciples spoke sternly to them.
But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, "Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it."
And Jesus took the children up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.
The gospel of the Lord
[Response] Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
All who try to live their faith in their time, in their place and in their community, are the children of God. And he will care for them forever – we just have to make up our minds that Jesus is the one to follow to live a meaningful life.
Let us listen to My Prayer for Service by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
If there is light in the soul,
There will be beauty in the person.
If there is beauty in the person,
There will be harmony in the house.
If there is harmony in the house,
There will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation,
There will be peace in the world. Amen.
Let us pray with the words that Jesus taught us:
Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
