Feast of St. Teresa of Calcutta
Tuesday, September 5
We bless ourselves in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Today is the Feast of Saint Teresa of Calcutta, better known as Mother Teresa. She is the Patron of Mother Teresa Catholic School. We remember her courage and kindness in working with the poor and sick on the streets of India.
Mother Teresa was a very courageous woman and she was also kind. Sometimes it takes courage to be kind. Sophocles wrote, "Kindness gives birth to kindness."
How might one act of kindness lead to more kindness from others? [pause]
As we reflect on the work of Mother Teresa, we ask God to bless us as we make new friends and learn together. Thank You, God, for this school year. Amen.
God of love,
Jesus the teacher,
Spirit of wisdom:
We place our dreams and our cares before you.
Be with us in our hope
Be with us in our anxiety
Be with us in our learning
Be with us in our friendships
Let us know that you are always walking with us,
To give us courage and strength for the journey through this school year.
Bless the students, teachers and staff gathered in this school;
For those new to the school,
May they feel welcomed,
For those who will be graduating,
May they extend their gifts of leadership;
For the staff of this school, may they grow in their love of this community,
This year, let us remember the poor, the sick and the lonely. Bless us as a school as we strive to be generous to those in need. Amen
Let us pray with the words that Jesus taught us:
Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
