Each of our schools regularly holds lockdown drills. These are as common in schools now as fire drills have been in past generations. During the first full week of the school year, St. Marguerite Bourgeoys School did a different drill each day.
Friday was the day for the lockdown drill.
After some words of wisdom from School Resource Officer Constable Sieber, students headed to class to start they day.
Mrs. Erichsen's class went about their day, knowing a drill was coming, but not knowing exactly when.
Then they heard Principal Ms. Paluck over the intercom, "Lockdown. Lockdown. Lockdown."
Every person in the room knew immediately what to do, and how to do it. Without saying a word, Mrs. Erichsen moved to the door, closed it, and confirmed that it was locked, and turned off the lights. Meanwhile, the students moved swiftly and very quietly into a corner of the room behind a wall, and away from the sight lines of the door.
From there.... there's not much to say. It was dark. It was quiet. Eventually, a police officer used a key to unlock the door and check on everyone.
Great job students!
