Career and Work Exploration Courses
Throughout
the school year, students have experienced mentorship opportunities in
various employment sectors that have included health, education, technology,
industrial trades, hospitality, tourism, business, and the service industry.
In preparation for their experience, students develop
resumes and cover letters for personal career portfolios, refine interview
skills, learn about safety in the workplace, develop job search skills
and strategies, and learn valuable information about the labour market
in a supportive school environment.
The objective of the course is to assist student
in the development of knowledge and transitional skills to work, apprenticeship
or post-secondary education.
Here is what the students and parents of LeBoldus
have to say about their experiences:
| "I gained so much out of this program,
like how an interview works, what to say, how to act, etc. I learned
what jobs interest me and what jobs don't. It just gave me a way to
try a job to actually see if I would like it in the future." |
| "I have learned how to deal with clients
and how to grow a business through good clientele relationship ...
I also learned other general skills, such as computer skills, organizational
skills and tidiness at the work place. ... I definitely recommend
this class to other students because as a student in the class I have
gained valuable business experiences while meeting new people. The
class is a great way to learn because it's a "hands-on"
type of class that allows for a positive learning environment. The
skills and knowledge I learned will be great assistance to me whatever
career I choose to follow." |
| "I have been exceptionally pleased with
this course and its effect on my daughter. She was very proud of her
work and developed increased self esteem and ability to choose future
endeavors." |
| "My daughter's attitude towards work
has changed dramatically since the start of the course. ... My daughter
has indicated many positive decisions toward a future career." |
