                        High School Attendance Data Report

 

              Archbishop M.C. O’Neill High School

 

The High School Attendance Data Report was produced to see the effects of the new High School Attendance Policy.  The data was collected from all four high schools through a total of 60 data reports – 15 reports extracted from each school – for Semester 1 in both the 2004-05 and 2005-06 school years.

 

1.  Mark Statistics

 

The mark statistics for O’Neill High School in semester 1 of 2005-06 can be found in the following table.

2.  Average Attendance

 

The average attendance (in all classes, excluding Band, Choral, Vocal Jazz, and Home Room/TAG because these classes are non-semestered) for semester 1 of 2005-06 was

3.  Percentage of Students Failing

 

Data was also collected about the percentage of students who were failing one of more subjects per grade level in semester 1 of 2005-06.  The following table displays the results.

4.  Number of Students Absent

 

Data was collected to show the number of students who were absent in at least one class in semester 1 of 2004-05 and in semester 1 of 2005-06.  The results can be found in the table below.

In three of the four categories – those with the greatest number of times missed -- the number of absences fell from semester 1 in 2004-05 to semester 1 on 2005-06.

 


5.  Attendance Related Interventions

 

There were several attendance related interventions put in place at the school level during the same periods of time.  These are detailed in the table below.

Notice that the number of interventions increased from 2004-05 to 2005-06.  This corresponds  with the decrease in absences during the same time.

 

 

6.  Overall Percentage of Absenteeism

 

The overall percentage of absenteeism declined from 2004-05 to 2005-06 in each grade level.  This can be seen in the following table.

7.  Comparison of Attendance and Grade Averages

 

A comparison was made between attendance and grade averages from semester 1 of 2004-05 to semester 1 of 2005-06 to determine if any pattern developed.  This can be seen in the table below.

This shows that in each category but one (94.9% to 90% attendance) the percentage of absenteeism went down while the overall average grade remained stable.

 

Conclusion

 

The results of the High School Attendance Data Report indicate that the high school attendance practice has succeeded in decreasing the percentage of absences at Archbishop M.C. O’Neill High School while maintaining the overall average grade.
