Student Police Academy
Any students who may be interested in a policing career can sign up for the Regina Police Service –Student Police Academy. Limited amount of spots available. Preference will be given to grade 12 students who have shown a prior interest in policing will be considered first. A background check of attendance, grades and behaviourwill be completed. Sign up through guidance. Lucky candidates chosen will be notified the beginning of March. Academy will be on March 13th.

DVD's of the music finals and the Arts Ed final are available this week only at Break from Mr. Hicks

Lunch Hour:
Just a reminder that no food or drink is allowed on the second floor or in the back hallways or portables. Students staying for lunch or bringing lunch back to the school are invited ton eat in the main floor commons area.

Report Cards
If you have not picked up your report card, please come to the office to pick it up.

IMPROV
Thank you to everyone whocame out to last night's improv show! The Canadian Improv
Games are next week at Balfour. Come on out and watch our two teams compete to win the
chance to go to nationals in Ottawa. Today at break, outside the theatre, you have the chance
to get a limited number ofadvance improv tickets for next Wednesday and Thursday at a
discounted price, come on by!There will be a freeimprov show tomorrow at 12:10 in the
theatre. We will be collecting donationsfor Teddy Bear'sAnonymous at the show, so bring
your pocket change!

Sr. Boys Basketball
Tickets for the 60thAnnual Luther Invitational Tournament are available for sale to all within Michael A. Riffel High School. Your senior boys basketball team will be taking part in this major event on February 9th-11th. Tickets sell like hotcakes so make sure you act fast. For more information or to purchase an LIT ticket, please visit the office!


Weight Room Closed
Due to hosting RIT our weight room will be closed all day Thursday and Friday.

Senior Girls Basketball
The Sr. girls basketball team played a very tough game last night but came up short against
Winnipeg’s Glenlawn Collegiate 63-57 at the Campbell Invitational Tournament.
High scorer was Caitlin Zacharius with 30 points. Every member stepped up to the challenge
defensively and represented Riffel extremely well! They will play this afternoon
to determine their bracket for playoffs.

Hockey
The Royals hockey team plays Thom today at 4:15 pm at the Staples meeting for all players in room 112 at break.

Jr. Girls Basketball
Congratulations to the Jr. Girls Basketball Team who defeated Aden Bowman in their first
game of RIT. Katie Nelson led the team with 22 points and was awarded the team Hustle
Award. The girls take on the LeboldusSuns tonight at 5:45 at Winston Knoll. Come out and
support your Royals!

Boys Junior Boys Basketball
An outstanding effort was put forth by our Junior Boys Basketball team in the first round of
RIT action yesterday afternoon. The Royals participated in an epic battle versus Sturgeon
Heights of Winnipeg. The game was back and forth the entire 40 minutes with the Royals
battling back from a 12 point deficit. In the final minute the crowd witnessed Colin Gudereit
hit a huge shot to get the team within 2 points and then come very close to hitting a last
second 3 to put the game into overtime. Unfortunately our Royals did not come out
victorious losing 63-60. The coaches would like to thank the boys for their effort and the
team would like to thank the staff and students for their support. High scorer for the Royals
was Mitchell Drozda with 16 points and the Hustle Award winner for the Royals was Colin
Gudereit.
There will be a very important meeting for the Junior Boys today at break in room 121. Boys
play at 7:30 pm tonight at Knoll.

Intermurals
Ready for 3 on 3 Basketball intermuralsstarting Feb 10th?? You need to register your team by
next Tues. (Feb 7th). Team Registration forms are on the whiteboard outside the gym.
Remember, team names MUST be appropriate or they will be changed. There will be a pizza
luncc
AND prizes for the winning team!

ROBOT RUMBLE
Are you interested in building things? How about building a robot? SIAST is hosting their
annual Robot Rumble in March. See a Guidance Counselor for more details.

Statutory holidays and the minimum number of days allowed for the winter and spring vacation periods are set by legislation. The 2012-2013 school year calendar is based on 197 school days.
