We pause, and begin our prayer in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Hope is part of the heart of Advent in December. Every day we see people in our school or in the community who seem to lose hope that things will get better. The Gospel of Jesus promises hope and joy in this world and in heaven.
Today we begin the second week of Advent. Today's purple candle is called the "love" candle. The light of this candle reminds us of the coming of Jesus, the light of our world, who brings us hope and fills us with God's love.
Jesus did marvelous things! He healed the sick and the lame. He did not turn away or bully but offered love and compassion. He did not call people names or make fun of someone but offered a healing touch and kind words.
How can we live like Jesus? How can we offer understanding, patience and love to those who are different than we are? How are we called to create a world where everyone and their gifts are valued? We pray!
In the light of two advent candles we pray:
God of love,
May we use the gifts of the Spirit of God
to help bring about the reign of love and understanding in our world.
May the Spirit of love and hope be with us during this Advent season.
We remember that we are all members of the body of Christ;
that we are all temples of the Holy Spirit
and we are all children of the light.
We conclude with our Advent Prayer:
God's hope to direct me.
God's love to surround me.
God's joy to warm me.
God's peace to comfort me.
Bless our Advent journey to Christmas with light and patience,
In love and hope we continue our day in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
