Elementary:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Today is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Many years ago, in Mexico, Jesus' mother Mary appeared as an indigenous person to Juan Diego, a poor farmer.  Today many people attend church celebrations, processionals and ceremonies to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe the Mother of Jesus who is still with us today.

Today is also understood as the "National Day in Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples"

Let us pray:

O God,

As light comes from our Advent candles,

May Jesus' blessing touch all the children of God,

Warming our hearts and brightening

our way with God's love.

May we share this love as:

A smile of welcome to the stranger

Shared laughter with your class

A gasp at the beauty of our world

A hug of comfort for a sad friend

We conclude with our Advent Prayer:

God's hope to direct me.

God's love to surround me.

God's joy to warm me.

God's peace to comfort me.

Bless our Advent journey to Christmas with light and patience,

With Mary, the mother of all peoples we continue our day in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

High School:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Today is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the Americas.  It is one of the holiest days in Mexico and much of South America.  In the 16th century, the Virgin Mary appeared as an indigenous person to Juan Diego, a poor farmer.  This day many people will attend church celebrations, processionals and ceremonies to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe the Mother of Jesus.  It is fitting that today is also recognized as the "National Day in Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples"

O God,

As light comes from our Advent candles,

May the blessing of Jesus Christ come to all the children of God,

Warming our hearts and brightening our way with God's love.

Let love be yours:

A smile of welcome to the stranger

Shared laughter with your class

A gasp at the sheer beauty of creation

A hug of comfort for a sad friend

Let joy be yours and may you pass on joy to others.

Amen.
