We begin in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Let us pray:
your son, Jesus, is your greatest gift to us,
a great sign of your love.
Guide us as we strive to walk in that love
together as a family this Advent.
As we prepare our hearts for Christmas,
bring us closer to each other and to your son.
Give us the grace and strength we need every day.
Help us to always trust in you.
Come, Lord Jesus, lead all people closer to you.
Come and dispel the darkness of our world
with the light of your love.
Open our hearts to your joy!
As one family at home and at school we continue our day in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Ready, set, pray!
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
There is a custom of hanging symbolic ornaments on a small tree, or vine, during Advent – homemade ornaments that represented Old Testament events from creation to the birth of Jesus. This "family tree", is set up during the days of Advent and is called the Jesse Tree, after King David's father.
"A shoot will spring forth from the stump of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots." Says the prophet Isaiah [Isaiah 11:1]
This "shoot" is a sign and promise of new hope and new life in difficult times. The Jesse Tree became a way to talk about the coming of the expected Messiah. This passage in Isaiah predicts the birth of Jesus, who was a descendent of King David.
May Christ our Saviour bring joy to our families,
And to us, as we wait for His coming.
We conclude with our Advent Prayer:
God's hope to direct me.
God's love to surround me.
God's joy to warm me.
God's peace to comfort me.
Bless our Advent journey to Christmas with light and patience,
Let us joyously shoot out into our day in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
