December 8

Elementary:

Good morning ___school name____.

Wherever you are in the building, please stand up for Jesus and join me in the sign of our faith.

In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen

We begin this morning by lighting two purple candles. Have someone in the room turn the lights off in the classroom so we can focus in on our Advent wreath. (Pause)

Our two lit candles represent HOPE and PEACE.

Today is December 8th and it is the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Some of you might be wondering "What the heck does that mean?"

In a nutshell, the Immaculate Conception tells us that God was with Mary in a special way that helped her to do only what was good, instead of making bad choices. That made her a really great mom for Jesus. When we say 'yes' to God like Mary did, then God helps us to be just as good and holy as Mary.

Mary was scared and afraid when she learned that she was going to become the mother of Jesus…but she trusted God and His plan.

During this second week of Advent, the week of peace, let us remember that we are followers of the Prince of Peace.

Dear Jesus, fill us with peace. Help us share that peace with everyone we work and play with today, especially those who need it most.

Thank you Lord, for the gift of our mother, Mary. May we have the faith of Mary to say YES to your call to live as children of God.

Thank you Mother Mary.

We make our prayer in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit. AMEN
