In the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Tonight at sundown the Jewish people begin to celebrate Purim. Purim is a joyous Jewish holiday that commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian Empire from destruction in the wake of a plot by Haman (royal advisor to the King), a story recorded in the bible book of Esther. (Esther 9:24, 27) Purim is a feast of freedom!
Looking at freedom in another way, today is also National Pink Shirt Day as we take a stand against any form of bullying – we need God's help and wisdom to fight bullies!
Our psalm passage today says: "Save me O Lord, in your steadfast love." God's is always loving us and inviting us into that love and life. But we are not God and we often treat one another poorly. Sometimes we make decisions that are not always loving.
God wants the best for us in freedom from bullying, cruelty and injustice – this is at the heart of wisdom and freedom: faith, hope and love.
Let us pray:
Lord, you know we have bad days.
You know we can make poor decisions sometimes.
Help us to make love part of our
Thoughts and actions every day.
Help us free others from fear.
Help us to free others from loneliness.
Help us to free others from bad situations.
Help us to look to Jesus for the decisions we make
Each and every day.
We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.
We need to be gentle and patient with others and ourselves so … God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
