In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
It’s winter and even though snow covers the ground there is life beneath the surface.
When heaviness weighs on us like a blanket of snow, we pray for hope – to see the life underneath the blanket.
In our Gospel today, Mark speaks of Jesus as the winner in the battle between good and evil. Selfish hearts and people defeat themselves as ultimately, they end up broken, alone and lost.
We are a people of unity and oneness and Love – this is Jesus message – good things happen when good people gather as life givers not life takers. Jesus mission is about life, love, hope and goodness. Jesus calls us to see the life and beauty hidden from our body’s physical eyes but seeable with a spiritual heart.
Today, try to think about God’s gifts of life or new life. When you go out at recess, look at God’s gift of beauty all around you. Even though you cannot see new life, imagine and believe that it is there.
When you are on your way home from school this afternoon look around and try to remember the many signs of life and growth that were there when the school year began. Say a prayer of thanks for the new life that will come again in a few weeks.
Winter has its own beauty and life in the snow and the cold. Silent sticks will again become ripe with leaves, blossoms and fruit just like our lives which have ups and downs too.
God of harmony and unity,
You call us together to build your kingdom.
May our ears hear your voice clearly
May our eyes see your beauty in all
May our understanding break down walls of fear and prejudice.
Make our school
a place of friendship
a place of belonging
a place of welcome.
where everyone feels safe.
where everyone has a place
where all are united in You, dear God.
Looking for life everywhere we enter our day in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
