Elementary:

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

In this reading, we hear the story about Jesus asking Matthew to be a disciple.

Matthew was a short man and a tax collector which made him very unpopular with the people of Galilee. Being a tax collector in Jesus's day meant he was working for the enemy known as the Romans. Still, Jesus called him to follow him.   Jesus said to Matthew, "Follow Me."  And Matthew got up and followed him.

Like Matthew. no matter who we are and what people think of us, we are all called to follow Jesus. Sometimes we don't think that we are good enough to be a friend of Jesus. Jesus knows otherwise. In Matthews Gospel Jesus says love your enemies (5:43-48).

All of us are a part of Jesus' mission to spread goodness, light and love into our world.  Jesus helps us become better and better persons.

Let us pray:

I thank you Lord

For knowing me better than I know myself

Help me do good, I pray in Jesus' name

Amen.

Let us conclude our prayers with the words of the prophet Micah:

May we act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with our God.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

High School:

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

In this reading, we hear the story about Jesus asking Matthew to be a disciple.

Matthew was a tax collector which made him very unpopular with the people of Galilee. Being a tax collector meant that at that time he was working for the enemy, the Romans. Nevertheless, Jesus called him to follow him.   Jesus said to Matthew, "Follow Me."  And Matthew got up and followed him.

What lessons does Jesus have for us in this story? No matter who we are and what people think of us, we are all called to follow Jesus. Sometimes we don't think that we are good enough to be a friend of Jesus. Jesus thinks otherwise. In Matthews Gospel Jesus says love your enemies (5:43-48).

We are all good. Good enough to be part of Jesus' mission to spread goodness and light into our world.  Jesus' love helps us become better and better persons.

Let us pray:

I thank you Lord

For knowing me better than I know myself

And for letting me know myself

Better than others know me.

Help me do good, I pray,

In Jesus' name

Amen.

Let us conclude our prayers with the words of the prophet Micah:

May we act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with our God.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
