Elementary:

We open our prayer, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Today's reading is taken from the Gospel according to Matthew (Matt 5:43 ff adapted).

You have heard some people say, "You shall love your friends and hate your enemy."  But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who hurt you, so that you may be children of God who loves us.

The Gospel of the Lord – Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus tells us to love others even if they have been unkind and hurt us. We find it easy to love our friends and neighbors and we can joke, laugh and share with then.

It is also easy to not care about anyone who does mean things to us.

We have been cooped up in our homes a lot these past weeks and family life may be scrappy some times but Jesus gives us the patient, big hearts to love all spread goodness and forgiveness rather than anger throughout the world.

Let's pray:

Jesus, open my heart to forgive those who have been mean to me.  Help me to treat all people with forgiveness, patience, goodness and honesty.

Let us pray together by saying together these words of the prophet Micah.

May we act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with our God.

We make our prayer in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen

High School:

We open our prayer, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus, open our hearts and minds as we listen to Your Word.

Today's reading is taken from the Gospel according to Matthew (Matt 5:43 ff).

You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy."  But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who hurt you, so that you may be children of God who loves us. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you?

The Gospel of the Lord – Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus tells us to love others regardless of how they treat us!  What?!

It easy to love our friends and neighbors.  We joke, laugh and share with our friends.

It is also easy to hate those who are mean to us.

Tensions may be running a little high in our world today, yet Jesus calls us to love our enemies and spread goodness rather than evil throughout the world.  We need help:

Let us pray:

God of truth, You challenge me to love my enemies.  Even though it is often difficult to forgive, open my heart to forgive those who have been unkind or mean to me.  Help me to treat those who are good with goodness and those who are not good with goodness too.  Help me to be honest with those who are honest and honest with those who are dishonest.

We ask You to give us the strength to always see good in Your creation.

Let us pray together by saying together these words of the prophet Micah.

May we act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with our God.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen
