Elementary:

We open our prayer, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Yesterday we celebrated the Nativity or birth of St. John the Baptist.

That day is celebrated by French Canadians across our country as John the Baptist or St. Jean Baptiste, is the patron Saint of French Canadians.

The Gospel of Luke (Luke 3: 2-3, 10-13) John the Baptist says: "

"Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise.  To the tax collectors he said to them, "collect no more than the amount prescribed for you.

The Gospel of the Lord.

[Response] Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

May remembering St. John the Baptist help us share something with a person in need.

May remembering St. John the Baptist stop us from cheating someone instead of being fair to them.

May remembering St. John the Baptist open our hearts when we are asked to donate food or clothing for people in need.

Let's us pray together by saying the words of the prophet Micah:

May we act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with our God.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

High School:

We open our prayer, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Yesterday we celebrated the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. This day is widely celebrated by French Canadians across our country.  John the Baptist or St. Jean Baptiste, is the patron Saint of French Canadians. Parades and festivities may occur throughout Canada this day.

The Gospel of Luke (Luke 3: 2-3, 10-13) describes how John the Baptist, a cousin of Jesus, lived a life of great integrity and honesty.

Let us listen to the Gospel of Luke.

… the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.

He went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a Baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.  And the crowds asked him, "What then should we do?"  In reply he said to them, "Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise.

To the tax collectors he said to them, "collect no more than the amount prescribed for you.

The Gospel of the Lord.

[Response] Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus as we remember John the Baptist open our hearts to share something with a person in need.

Help us to remember St. John the Baptist when we want to cheat someone instead of being fair to them.

Help us to remember John the Baptist's message when we are asked to contribute food or clothing gathered for people in need.

Let's us pray together by saying the words of the prophet Micah:

May we act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with our God.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.
