In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen
This past Sunday marked the great feast of Pentecost - the birthday of the Church. Today we celebrate the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church. It's one-two combination! Our Church is rooted in the Holy Spirit and in a young woman, Mary, whose "yes" enabed Jesus and the Holy Spirit to enter the world in a new and profound way; a living way that today still brings life, hope and healing. Women are bedrock foundational to who we are as Church.
Let us listen to this reading from John's gospel (19:25-27)
… Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, 'Woman, here is your son.' Then he said to the disciple, 'Here is your mother.' And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
We are one family, old and new, united in Christ – let us live that way!
We celebrate and thank God for the gifts of the Spirit lived out in all good peoples and we conclude our prayers with the words of the prophet Micah:
May we act justly, love tenderly, and walk humbly with our God.
Our Easter season has now ended – now we spend time thinking about living our faith in new ways as we continue our day in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen
