We begin our prayers today in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
We hear in Mark's gospel (8: 34)
He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, "If any want to become my followers,
let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me".
Mark's gospel shows us three qualities of discipleship. First, it is a gift to be called by God. Jesus called the first disciples, and he calls us. Discipleship is also a privilege, and a privilege is not to be taken for granted. This privilege needs to be nurtured and grown, and not kept in the box of what we thought about our faith as a child. Finally, Mark shows us that discipleship is about following Jesus.
Simple? Yes! Challenging? For sure!
What things are you doing to keep your faith growing and maturing?
How will you follow Jesus this week?
We pray for (all who suffer from ... peace in our world ...) Lord, come and bless your people.
God is good! All: All the time!
All the time! All: God is good!
May God's cause be the only concern of our hearts; and let the people of God say:
