May 4

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

In May we honour and celebrate Mary, the Mother of God.

May 1st was the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker, the husband of Mary, the earthly father of Jesus, and the provider and protector of the Holy Family. Today is also International Worker's Day and we recognize the value of human work and defend the dignity of working people while encouraging all people to celebrate the role of human work in God ongoing plan for creation.

St. Joseph is a great model of responsibility. He took his role as husband, father and provider very seriously. He was a loving man and a hard-working carpenter who kept God's commandments and cared well for Mary and Jesus.  In our prayer today, we ask St. Joseph for his help with all of our work and responsibilities.  May we realize that our hard work can be very rewarding and bring us closer to God.

In this month devoted to Mary we pray the Hail Mary:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

We ask for blessings for all our Asian brothers and sisters as May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada.

This week is North American Occupational health and Safety week so we pray for the rights for all workers to have a safe and secure workplace.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
