November 29

We begin our reflections and prayers today in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

In Luke’s gospel we hear (Luke 21:12-19):

‘But before all this occurs, they will arrest you and persecute you; they will hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my name. This will give you an opportunity to testify. So make up your minds not to prepare your defense in advance; for I will give you words and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name. But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your souls.

To be a follower of Jesus is not easy and not an escape from responsibility to be a good person.  Following Jesus may create tensions among friends and families as we strive to live the Life Jesus calls us to.  So, when things are tough and we want to be just like everyone else so we don’t stand out (which can be embarrassing and/or frustrating sometimes), Jesus reminds us to be courageous and strong as he will protect us and he needs our voice in the world.

And we pray:

Lord give us courage to love and forgive and to put you at the centre of our lives.  Help us to see your guidance and protection every day.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

We continue our day in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
