October 4

October 4th

We sign our self in the name of the God who loves us, Jesus who walks with us, and the Holy Spirit who flows through us.  Amen.

Today is the memorial of St. Francis of Assisi. He is the patron of St. Francis school in our Regina Catholic School Division.  St. Francis was a great lover of nature, the poor and a powerful person of peace.  In fact, St. Francis went on a mission of peace to meet the Muslim people in Egypt. Our present Pope has chosen St. Francis as his name and so our Pope is Pope Francis 😊

 St. Francis was a great model of compassion.  Not only did he have great kindness for the poor but he also loved all of God's creatures, calling them Brother or Sister as in brother Sun and sister Moon.  Through the prayers of St. Francis, may we become people of peace, love and kindness so that we can call each other brother or sister - we are all part of the family of God.

Let us listen to the prayer of St. Francis:

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is doubt, faith;

Where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light;

And where there is sadness, joy.

O, Divine Master,

Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love;

for it is in giving that we receive

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

We close our prayer in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.
