October 1

We begin our reflections and prayers in the name of the Father and the

Son and the Holy Spirit.

October is Reverence for Life month, so we pay special attention to all living things especially all the children of God including Islamic peoples as October is also Islamic History Month.  We also note that this month is Child Abuse Awareness Month so we pray for good of all children.

So many good things to recall.

Today is the feast day of a special child of God, St. Thérèsa of Lisieux [Liz-U] popularly known as St. Thérèsa of the Child Jesus or "The Little Flower" as she loved nature and saw herself as the little flower of Jesus. She is patron of our own St. Theresa's school community in RCSD and of our Regina parish, Little Flower, both named after this mystic who is the patron saint of florists, missionaries, pilots, and priests.

October is also Women's History Month. We are thankful for the life-giving gifts that  women, Theresa included, have shared with us and our world. Nurturing life in all its expressions is at the Jesus heart of all Christians!

Let's us pray:

The response to the prayer is "We give thanks"

For compassionate women such as Mother Teresa, [response]

For courageous women of our faith like St. Joan of Arc, [response]

For just women struggling for women's right such as Canada's "Famous Five", [response]

For wise women such as St. Theresa of Lisieux, [response]

For creative women such as Anne of Green Gable's author Lucy Maude Montgomery, [response]

For exploring women such as Canada's first woman astronaut, Roberta Bondar, [response]

For faithful women such as Mary, Mother of God, [response]

For reverence for life in all its shapes and stages, [response]

October is a month where we pay special honor to Mary we end our prayer with a Hail Mary.

Hail Mary

Full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women

and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
