Elementary:

Today is the Feast of St. Matthew, patron of St Matthew School here is Regina. St. Matthew was one of Jesus' apostles and writer of one of our four Gospels.  Many people disliked Matthew because he was a tax collector.  People used to believe that tax collectors were traitors who took money from their own people to give to the Romans who were their  enemies.  By becoming Matthew's friend, Jesus teaches us to be kind to everyone. Sometimes we need to be bold enough to befriend those who others bully or ignore.

Today is also the United Nations International Day of Peace. God, Creator of the World, please help us to love one another and bring peace to your world.  Let us make a special effort to be peaceful in our actions today.

Seeking peace, we pray the family prayer of all who follow Jesus:

Our Father,

Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done,

on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those

who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

We close our prayer in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
