Feast of the Canadian Martyrs: St. John de Brébeuf and St. Isaac Jogues, priests and Companions
We again begin our prayer by signing ourselves in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Today is the Feast of the Canadian Martyrs in Canada. A martyr gives up his or her life while serving God.
The three Canadian Martyrs we mentioned were French Jesuits who brought the Christian faith to the North American First Nations peoples. When they came to the new land, they lived in extreme poverty and hardship so that they could be witnesses to the first nations people and live out their Christian faith. Throughout their lives, they demonstrated great courage, and died in the service of bringing the Christian faith to the early settlers in North America. They were models for us learners who seek to take initiative and show Christian leadership.
Holy Martyrs, renew today our Catholic faith. Bring all our fellow citizens to a knowledge and love of the truth. Help us to continue the work which you have begun. Pray for our homes, our schools, and for our leaders. Help us find the courage to respect all peoples and all faiths.
Let us pray with the words that Jesus taught us:
Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
