Elementary:

We wake up to our day in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Tomorrow is the Feast of the Archangels. Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are the names of the Archangels – not Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

Angels are messengers from God. Archangels are special messengers. St. Michael is the patron of St. Michael's School here in Regina while St. Gabriel is the patron of St. Gabriel Catholic School here in town.  So, who are the Archangels?

Angel Gabriel brought messages to God's people about the coming of the Messiah, as promised by God.  Gabriel, whose name means 'God is my strength' appears to Mary in Nazareth, telling her that she was chosen by God to give birth to our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

St. Michael, whose name means `he who is as God', is the protector and supporter of mercy and justice. St. Raphael, whose name means 'God heals', is the archangel chosen for physical and emotional healing.

We seek their prayers and support:

After each line, please respond,

Pray for us:

Saint Gabriel, messenger with news of grace and love,

Pray for us.

Saint Michael, defender and protector,

Pray for us.

St. Raphael, healer of every ill,

Pray for us.

Today we also celebrate Orange Shirt day in our schools which recalls a time when Indigenous children were taken from their homes to residential schools. It is an opportunity to stand against racism and bullying in our upcoming school year.  We could use the help of the Archangels in these efforts.  If we share the message of God, perhaps we are acting as angels in our own way.

So, surrounded by angels and archangels we continue our day in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

High School:

We wake up to our day in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Tomorrow is the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael the Archangels.  St. Michael is the patron of St. Michael's School here in Regina while St. Gabriel is the patron of St. Gabriel Catholic School here in town.  So, who are the Archangels?

Gabriel brought messages to God's people about the coming of the Messiah, as promised by God.  Gabriel, whose name means 'God is my strength' appears to Mary in Nazareth, telling her that she was chosen by God to give birth to our Saviour, Jesus Christ and she needed strength for that journey.

In many ways the archangels teach us to spread messages of goodness and respect both about ourselves and about other people. Michael, whose name means `he who is as God', is the protector and patron of righteousness, mercy and justice. Raphael, whose name means 'God heals', is the archangel chosen for physical and emotional healing.

Let's ask for their support:

After each line, please respond,

Pray for us:

Saint Gabriel, messenger with news of grace,

Pray for us.

Saint Michael, defender and protector,

Pray for us.

St. Raphael, healer of every ill,

And now, surrounded by angels and archangels we continue our day in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.
