The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Friday, September 8
We sign ourselves in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Loving God our creator we give thanks for your many gifts of creation.
As we begin this month of September begin to see many changes that come with the fall harvest season. The colourful changes in the leaves on the trees will bring much variety in our yards and along our streets. The golden grain in the prairie fields will turn to stubble as crops are gathered in.
Slowing the world will go sleepily to rest and seem to die until the next spring brings new life again.
Lord, help us to care for our earth and always use resources wisely so no one in all of creation goes hungry or dies from lack of food.
Fall is a season of change and today we joyfully note that Mary's birth was a time of change for all creation as she was to become the Mother of Jesus – something new and beautiful in our world.
May that same Holy Spirit that brought new life into the world through Mary and Joseph be with us this year as we learn and grow our knowledge and faith.
Let us pray with the words that Jesus taught us:
Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Mother Mary pray for us:
Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women
And blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinnersnow and at the hour of our death.
We close our prayer in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
