November is busy time in the school. Teachers and students have been working hard over the past two months. We have been gathering data and building up towards our first reporting period. This year we have transitioned to a new reporting system. Students are more directly involved in their learning. They have been setting goals for the year, they have been self-evaluating their efforts and behaviors. They have been working to understand the new reporting system as well. Students in all grades will be assessed based on the curriculum outcomes. As in the past we have been working to meet all of the outcomes in the curriculum. This year however instead of marks you will see NY, B, M, EU. NY indicates that the students are not yet meeting the outcome. They are unable to complete the work at the grade level. B indicated that they are beginning to understand the curriculum outcomes. They still need support to get there. M indicated that they are able to meet the outcome on their own. EU indicates an enriched understanding of the outcome. They are able to take the concept and apply it to other ideas or experiences. We look forward to sharing these exciting changes with you at student/parent/teacher conferences at the end of November.

As a parent, your role in your child’s education is to support them and the school. Your child has been working hard over the past two months to meet the curriculum outcomes. As a staff, we have been working equally as hard to get them there. During the month of November, teachers are busy assessing. Please help us out by ensuring your child is at school every day. Attendance is a very important piece to ensuring your child’s success in school. Learning can only take place when they are here and ready to learn. Another way you can support your child is to read with them or have them do some reading on their own. We are a reading school and reading allows you to do anything in life. It gives your child the skills and knowledge to continue their education and grow. Another important piece to their success is their health. Help them get a good night’s sleep and eat well-balanced meals. Please remember that we do have breakfast in the morning and lunch for our students. It’s our way of helping with their success. Together, we can help your child reach their full potential. Thanks for a great start to the year.

We hope to keep this positive energy going into the second reporting term.
