On Wednesday, May 24th, the students of Mme. Fischer’s grade 5 class and Mme. Ruschiensky’s grade 1 class visited the old RIIS (Regina Indian Industrial School) cemetery at 701 Pinkie Road. This past fall, the site was made a Municipal Heritage site in Regina. The two classes decided to visit the site as an initiative to create more awareness around Truth and Reconciliation in the school community. Students placed tokens of remembrance at the site of the cemetery to honor the 40 unknown children who never returned home from the RIIS. Our school plans to continue these visits in years to come to continue the awareness surrounding Residential schools and Truth and Reconciliation.
