Speech and Language

October 03, 2019

Reading-to-your-child.jpgTip of the Month

Encourage your child’s language development by being a good language model yourself!
Speak clearly and slow down the rate of your speech when you talk in order to give your child more time to understand and process what you are saying.
Stay with one topic.
Signal when you change topics (ex: “Oh that reminds me (of)…”, “This has nothing to do with what we’re talking about but…”, “Before I forget…”, etc.)
Maintain good eye contact when you speak and listen.
Clarify unclear statements by repeating what was said or saying it in a different way.
Give adequate time for a response.
