Tip of the Month
Take time to read books with your child every day. Go beyond simply reading the words on the page and engage in a conversation with your child.
When reading a book with your child, ask them questions about the events and characters in the story and talk about similar events or character traits that they may be able to relate to personally. Make comments about what you see happening in the illustrations, ask your child to predict what will happen next before turning the page, discuss if the characters choices were good or if they would have done something differently, etc.
Remember to make sure to stop reading and talking at times in order to provide opportunities for your child to ask questions and make comments too!
