Welcome to October! The month of September flew by as we were busy getting back into the routine of school. We
continue to be pleased with the motivation, cooperation and engagement of our students- bravo!
Please take note of the following information items:
Hat / Pyjama Fridays in October
For the month of October, we will be fundraising for the Holy Childhood Association. This is a Catholic, Canadian charity with whom École St. Angela Merici has a longstanding relationship, and we were unable to donate to this group in the spring due to the school shutdown. We are asking students to donate each Friday in October - $1 to wear a hat all day and/or $2 to wear pyjamas. If you would prefer to pay for the whole month in advance, that is okay too! This association's motto is "children helping children". Monies raised through schools are directed towards self-help programs involving the building of schools, the provision of health and nutrition programs and medications, school fees, and teaching and learning resources. If you'd like more information, please check out their website
School Closures in October
Please be reminded that there were multiple changes to the RCSD school day calendar this spring. The calendar printed in the student agenda indicates that October 9th is and Institute day and that the school is closed, however the Teachers' Institute is in fact on October 26th; October 9th is therefore a regular school day for staff and students.
Hot Lunch October 23rd
Our first Hot Lunch of this year will be McDonald's and will be served on October 23rd. This special lunch is optional and will be available to students in Grades 1 to 8. Orders must be placed before October 16th at healthyhunger.ca. Before the lunch is displayed in your parent account you must select this year's classrooms for your children. If you have any questions please call the office.
Hallowe'en at École St. Angela Merici
This day will be recognized at our school on Friday, October 30th and students can choose to wear a costume or to dress in black and orange. Students are to come to school in their costumes and their costumes must be appropriate for school. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we ask that students do not bring any treats intended to be shared with classmates on this day. Thank you for your cooperation in this regard. Also please ensure that no capes are sent to school to be worn on Halloween.
This year's staff retreat will be on Monday, November 2nd. There is no school for students that day.
