By now many of you have already been given further details from classroom teachers about your child’s upcoming online learning experience. The staff at École St. Angela Merici are committed to continuing to provide engaging learning opportunities for our students even if we are connecting with them remotely.
At École St. Angela Merici we will be scheduling staggered morning lesson times:
• Kindergarten to Grade 2 students will meet with their teachers from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
• Grades 3 to 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
• Grades 6 to 8 from 11:00-12:00.
We are staggering the lesson times to allow for families who have multiple children sharing devices, and we realize that not all students will be able to log on at their class’ assigned lesson time. You will receive more information from your child’s classroom teacher as to what tasks and assignments need to be completed. Each afternoon your child’s teacher may offer an optional check-in or lesson; students can choose to log on at this time or to continue to work independently.
During the two weeks of online learning participation is mandatory as teachers will be covering curriculum content; this is not supplemental, optional learning. Some teachers may offer recorded lessons for those students that can’t log on for their scheduled lesson, and all teachers will provide the lesson materials and activities required for independent work.
Staff will be working in the building from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and the office will be staffed from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If your child will not be participating in online learning due to illness or other circumstance please call the office to report their absence as per usual practice.
Teachers will be taking attendance each day, however “attendance” will be determined a little differently; as long are students are participating and engaging in some way in online learning (joining live lessons, submitting work, completing Seesaw activities, emailing the teacher, etc.) they will be considered “present.”
The early dismissal on December 18th will still be in place; students and staff will not be expected to engage after 2:35pm next Friday.
Next week is also our Christmas Spirit Week at school! Students are invited to participate by dressing to the day’s theme and sending in a photo to their classroom teacher or Mme Wahl at email@example.com . Our school’s spirit wear/ Grade 8 hoodies order is still scheduled to arrive late next week. When it arrives we will communicate with families to arrange contact-free pickup at the school. Unfortunately our supplier experienced delays related to COVID-19 but they are working hard to fulfill the order. We will update you all next week with the status of the clothing.
Finally, the staff would like to sincerely thank all of our students and their families for being so supportive during these last few months; we have felt your positivity and good wishes. While we are not seeing your kids face-to-face every day we are grateful to still be able to connect with them virtually and wish them well while they work at home.
