February 2021 Parent Information Letter

January 29, 2021

It is hard to believe that when we sent out the last parent information message students were engaged in remoteFebruary Parent Information Letter.png learning; we remain thrilled to be back together in our classrooms with face-to-face learning!

 Student pick-ups/ drop-offs

Parents please be reminded that when you bring your child to school or pick them up we require that you park along Maple Ridge Drive or Gilmore Drive; please do not use either of the staff parking lots.  We have had several near misses where students have had to dodge cars pulling in and out of these lots, which are reserved exclusively for staff use.  Thank-you in advance for your anticipated cooperation and help in keeping our students safe.

 Student Progress Reports

These were emailed home on Tuesday, January 26th.  While these mid-term reports offer a quick summary of your child's overall progress and achievement we still encourage you to stay up-to-date with student learning by checking the online platform that is being used by your child's classroom teacher (Seesaw, Scholantis, OneNote).  These platforms offer regular, more detailed information for both parents and students on student achievement and performance.  So far this year at École St. Angela Merici we have had close to 60 000 parent views/ comments in Seesaw alone; thanks for your support parents!

 Lent/ Chalice Fundraiser

This year Ash Wednesday falls during our Winter Break, so we will not be celebrating this liturgy at school.  Instead, we will be partnering with Holy Family Parish and other Northwest Regina schools to hold a virtual Lenten Preparation Liturgy on Friday, February 12th.  Throughout Lent classrooms will be leading weekly liturgies to help us prepare for Easter.

As well, as we have done in past years at our school, we will be fundraising for Chalice.  Chalice Canada is a Catholic international aid charity focused on child, family and community development; more information can be found on their website

To support the fundraiser we invite students to donate a loonie to wear a hat or pajamas to school every Friday during Lent, beginning Friday, February 26th.

2021-2022 Kindergarten Registrations

Applications for Kindergarten are now being accepted.  If you or someone you know has a child turning 5 this year who are looking for Catholic, French Immersion programming please contact the office.

 Hot Lunch

All of the upcoming hot lunches for the year are posted on the Healthy Hunger website.  Our next hot lunch will be provided by Dairy Queen and will be held on Friday, February 12th.  Orders are due next Friday, February 5th, and unfortunately late orders will not be accepted.  Proceeds from our hot lunches fund student activities and initiatives in the school that are not covered by our regular school budget; we are grateful for your support of this program which benefits our students (and gives families a break from making lunches!)

 Valentine's Day Spirit Day

On February 12th students are invited to dress in Red and Pink in honour of Valentine's Day.  Students who would like to bring Valentine cards for their class may do so, but we ask that these be sent to school by Wednesday, February 10th in order to have them sit for 48 hours due to our ongoing attempts to limit the spread of COVID-19.  This year, also due to COVID-19, students will not be permitted to bring in candy or other treats from home.  Instead, we thank our CSCC who will be providing individually-wrapped treats for the whole school this year- merci!

 School holidays

There is no school for students Friday, February 5th due to a Teacher Institute.  Our Winter Break is also upcoming in February; the school will be closed from February 15th to February 19th; we hope you enjoy some time with your families.

École St. Angela Merici's Catholic School Community Council's next meeting is on Monday, March 8th and can be joined by clicking this link Click here to join the meeting.  All parents are invited to attend these meetings and get involved in the supports offered to teachers by our parent community.  If you are unable to attend the meetings we invite you to read the meeting minutes that are available on the CSCC tab on our school's website.  We thank our CSCC for sponsoring a staff lunch during Teacher Appreciation Week which runs from February 8th to 12th; merci chers parents pour ce beau cadeau!
