Bonjour Griffons Families!
The end of our school year is fast approaching- too fast in fact. Our staff and students remain very busy wrapping up year-end assessments and celebrating student achievements. We are also looking forward to our Grade 8 Farewell on Friday, June 18th. Please read on for more important year-end information.
Parents, we are very grateful for your cooperation with before and after school student pick-ups and drop-offs. Your support with having students cross the streets at the corner, arranging alternate meeting points, and avoiding the staff parking lots throughout the day has made our school safer for everyone. We have also had several families send in treats and positive emails and messages for our staff over the last few weeks. Please know that these kindnesses go a long way in uplifting our teachers, caretakers, and office personnel as we continue to serve your children in what has been a crazy year. Merci beaucoup- we appreciate you!
June 11th is a teacher prep day and there is no school for students.
Please consider attending the CSCC's virtual annual general meeting on Monday, June 14th at 7:00pm. In addition to elections for the positions of Chair and Vice-chair you will have the opportunity to meet RCSD's new Director of Education Sean Chase as well as École St. Angela Merici's incoming vice-principal Mme Tricia Erlendson. You can join the meeting by clicking HERE. It is not too late to nominate yourself or someone you know for one of the open positions; the nomination form is available HERE. See you Monday evening!
Hot Lunch June 18th: Panago Pizza
Our last hot lunch of the year will be held Friday, June 18th and will be served by Panago Pizza. If you would like to have this lunch provided for your child(ren) please ensure your orders are submitted at healthyhunger.ca by midnight, June 11th. Proceeds from these lunches have supported many classroom activities and projects that would not occur without these funds; thank-you for your support!
Early Dismissal June 28th
Please be reminded that students will be dismissed at 2:35pm on Monday, June 28th. Busses will be picking any bussed students up at this time, and they will be arriving home one hour early on the last day of school.
Earlier this week a message from RCSD was sent to all our families advising of changes in bussing service for the 2021-2022 school year. At the school we have no further details regarding the changes, but we have been assured that a communication with further information will be coming from the school division in the near future- stay tuned.
Drop-off Your Backpack and Classroom Placements 2021-2022
Even though we are busy wrapping up this year we have put in place a few plans for next year. In the hope that the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions will continue we have planned to have our third annual Drop-off Your Backpack evening for August 31st from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. We invite all students and their parents to this Come and Go Event where you can bring in your child's school supplies, see their classroom, and meet their teacher for next year. Mark your calendars as we cannot wait to host our families at a face-to-face event in our building!
Our teachers have continued working hard to build classrooms for next year and our staff list and classroom configurations will be shared at the end of June. We will however not be sending home individual student placements as per usual practice in report cards this year. We realize that for some students this may cause anxiety over the summer months but please understand that due to a number of factors, many relating to the pandemic, we have been receiving a higher number of new registrations lately and have also processed a higher-than-usual number of students moving from our school. In the fall of 2020, we had to make the challenging decision to re-build three of our classrooms at the last minute which caused stress for the impacted teachers, students and their families and we are looking at having to do similar work at the end of the summer once again. We do not want for our students to spend two months getting comfortable with the idea of being in one classroom, then having to change that situation on them a day or two before school resumes.
Placements will be finalized at the end of August and shared the evening of our Drop-off Your Backpack event. We sincerely thank you all in advance for your understanding.
And speaking of report cards- these will be handed out to students at the end of the day Monday, June 28th. If your child will not be at school the last Monday of the year, please provide the office with a stamped ($3.00 in postage), self-addressed, business-sized (9x12) envelope so we can mail the report card to you. As per division policy we cannot distribute report cards early.
Any of our students aged 12 and over who have not yet received their first vaccine dose are eligible to attend the vaccination clinic at St Nicholas School next Tuesday, June 15th.
If your child will be receiving their vaccine at St Nicholas that day, please ensure that the consent form is returned to our office by tomorrow, Thursday, June 10th.
We hope that you all continue to stay safe and healthy as we move through June. Enjoy these last few weeks before the summer holidays!
