It is hard to believe we are already one month into the school year; time flies when you are having fun! In addition to getting the 2021-2022 school year up and running we have nearly wrapped up a season of Aerial Football, started Musical auditions, had our first hot lunch, recognized Terry Fox and Orange Shirt Day, and had our first school mass. It has been great having regular routines and events re-established in our school.
Please take note of the following information and updates for October:
October 4th CSCC Meeting
Thank-you on behalf of the CSCC to all families who completed the parent survey. The next meeting will be held Monday, October 4th at 7:00pm and you can attend either in person in our resource centre or virtually by clicking the following link: https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19:meeting_NzY3YjMyOTEtMWIxNC00YjUxLTk1ZmEtOGZlY2U0MmM3NTAy%40thread.v2/0?context=%7b%22Tid%22:%22907051ff-b5ce-496f-bb1d-c671754ccd7f%22%2c%22Oid%22:%2244d1f643-a7f9-4792-a734-a31ac604af8a%22%7d
All parents/ guardians who have a child or children attending École St. Angela Merici are welcome to attend; see you there!
Student Cell Phone Policy
In September we streamlined our student cell phone policy to allow students to use cell phones only for academic purposes during the school day. Parents, we are very happy to share that our students took this new restriction in stride and have been by and large incredibly respectful of this new approach. We continue to be mindful of monitoring the use of smart watches in the classroom and have students communicate with their teachers if they need to get in touch with someone using their phone during the school day. We ask that parents or siblings who need to reach one of our students please call the office at 306-791-7305 so as not to disturb the class with a call or text; thank you for your continued support of this procedure.
Thanks to everyone who participated in our first hot lunch last month! If you have not already done so please check to ensure that your child is linked in your Healthy Hunger account with their classroom teacher; you should have received instructions on how to update this information last week. If students are correctly sorted on the website it ensures that everyone gets their meal faster. If you have any questions please call us in the office. Our next hot lunch is Edo and Booster Juice and will be held on October 22nd.
Spoons and Forks
Lately we have had many students who have come to the office asking for spoons and forks with which to eat their lunch. In an effort to be environmentally conscious we will not be providing disposable cutlery to students. Please have your child ensure that they have what they need in their lunch box before they come to school; we appreciate your help with this parents!
Seesaw: Did You Know?
Last week there were nearly 1000 visits from parents to our students' work on Seesaw; this is fantastic! Thank-you for these connections and this engagement.
Being that Halloween falls on a weekend once again this year we will be holding our Halloween/ Fall Spirit Day on Friday, October 29th. Students are invited to wear a costume to school or to dress in black and orange. Costumes must be appropriate for our Catholic school environment and must align with our school's dress code. Please send your child to school already in their costume and we ask that students not wear capes or bring hand-held costume accessories to school. We will be celebrating our All Saints/ All Souls Day Liturgy on November 2nd.
St. Angela Merici is thrilled to restart musical theatre this year! We will begin rehearsals for this year's production of Into the Woods Jr. on October 12th. Due to the ongoing nature of Covid-19, our cast size has been reduced this year, to ensure student safety. We wish to thank all of the students who tried out for roles this year. The level of competition to earn a role was especially intense and the decisions for casting were particularly difficult this year. While we wish we could include all students in a role, this is simply not possible, so we thank you for your understanding and support, as well as your congratulations to those who earned a role. Students who have been cast in a role are asked on Thursday, October 7th for a read-through from 3:45-5:00. Rehearsal schedules will be given to students at that time and regular rehearsals will begin October 12th. Stay tuned for more information!
