Principal's Message - February 2020

February 06, 2020

Our Catholic Faith:
Ms. Betteridge's and Mr. Cherwaty's grade 8 classes will lead us in a French Carnival/Mardi Gras activity day on February 25. There will be a full day of stations and fun activities for our students to participate in. The next day, we will host an Ash Wednesday Liturgy at Resurrection parish at 2:00 pm on February 26. Ms. Weber and I will host it with her grade 3/4 class. Our final liturgical event for February will be the Pink Shirt Day liturgy on the 28th, hosted by Mrs. Rieger's grade 1's and Mr. Kuntz's grade 7's. Please join us for any or all of these celebrations!!

Our School Responsibility Plan:
Each month, as stated in our School Responsibility Plan, we will focus on one virtue to help our students develop a better sense of moral intelligence. This month's virtue is Inclusiveness, and will be presented in daily prayer and a bulletin board display by Mrs. Hayward's grade 6's and Mrs. Borys' grade 3's. Our "Guardian of the Month" presentations, to the student who best demonstrates that monthly virtue in the classroom and around the school, will be announced at our next Monthly Assembly on Friday, March 6 at 9:00 am in the gym. All of the students who earn a "Guardian of the Month" recognition in the second half of the year will attend an activity/excursion in the afternoon with Mrs. Zenuk and me in June as a "thank you" for showing such positive behavior around St. Gabriel School.

Our Curriculum & Assessment:
The Report Cards have been sent home, and teachers will continue to add assessments and marks in to the Parent Portal. Please let me know if you need another log in sheet sent home.

On March 25 and 26, we will host a second round of PSTC to review the learning goals set by students. The final report card will be distributed June 25, with comments included.

Our Communication with the Community:
We currently have 23 Kindergarten students registered for the fall, which is around 10 students less than we normally have. We need at least 27 students or more registered to qualify for a full time program of morning and afternoon classes. If you know of parents of students who will be five years of age by December 31, 2020, are Catholic, and who reside in our catchment area, please remind them to call for an appointment to register their child. Please see the school website for more information.

Our next CSCC meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 10 at 6:30 pm in the library. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Thank you to all the families who attended our Pirate-themed Family Literacy Night. We thank Mrs. Scollan, our Teacher Librarian, and all the teachers who attend, for organizing and supervising these wonderful evenings.

We hope everyone has a safe and happy Winter Break from February 17-21. Remember if you are going to be on an extended holiday, please notify the school.

From our St. Gabriel family to yours, a very Happy Saint Valentine's Day!

School starts back after the break on Monday, February 24, 2020.

Email me @ if you have any questions/concerns!

God Bless,
Mrs. Anne Lutz
