Dear Thunderbolt Families!

We celebrate the third week of  Advent this Sunday.  The focus this week is on Mary and her brave "yes" to be the mother of Jesus.  The candle this week represents JOY as we get closer to the celebration of Christmas.  Joy and rejoicing are not the emotions that most of us are experiencing in the midst of this pandemic.  However, we do rejoice in knowing that people around us are moved by the Spirit of God to comfort and heal.  The dark days we are in are filled with the light of those who bring us hope and light through their actions.

Our outpouring of generous donations for the senior gift baskets filled my heart with joy!  When we recognize and support those who need our light, joy will fill our hearts. This week we also begin our first week of remote learning.  Please watch this beautiful video to bring you some joy, light and strength  -  we truly all are doing a good job and appreciate everyone's efforts.

"But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great JOY for all people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you.  He is the Messiah, the Lord."     Luke 2: 10-11

Weekly News

  • Remote Learning - Dec. 14 - 18; Jan. 4 - 8
    • The Regina Catholic School Division announced on Tuesday that we are moving to REMOTE learning for the week before Christmas break and the week after Christmas break.  School is still in session but students will be learning from home.  This will be blended instruction with synchronous (live sessions) and asynchronous (student directed) opportunities.  Most importantly, this is still mandatory curriculum learning.
    • Student attendance will be tracked by at least one check in per day by a student.  This may include participation in the classroom MS Teams meeting, submitting an assignment in SeeSaw or OneNote, an email message to the teacher, or a reply to a FlipGrid or other discussion.  This check in can occur at any time of the day as we do realize that some students may not be able to do this until the evening.  We have done our best to provide both paper work and online activities to support our students.  Our students are also knowledgeable about MS Teams and their school learning platforms - they should be able to lead the way!
    • Click here to view the letter from our school division with remote learning expectations.
  • Remote Learning Meeting Schedule
    • The school remains open and teachers are available during the regular school day hours to support student learning.  Teachers may not be able to respond to evening messages and submissions immediately.  Thank you for your patience!
    • Each teacher will be sharing their daily schedule for student work.
    • The schedule for each teacher includes a daily meeting.
      • Each family will receive an EMAIL that includes all the team meeting links in one place!  Remember that this document is only for our students and families.
      • All meetings should be attended only by the members in the class with a parent or older sibling if needed.
    • Digital Citizenship is the expectation we have for online conduct and behavior.  The school administration has visited each classroom to outline how to behave in our online meeting spaces and learning platforms.  Teachers have also shared their expectations.  These are the same BOLT virtues and expectations we have in our daily classrooms.  Students are asked to be respectful in their meeting spaces, including only using the chat as directed by the teacher.  It is very important to review this again with your child.
  • Healthy Hunger
    • Huge thank you to our CSCC for supporting a last minute date change for our Pita Pit lunch to be held on Friday!  New dates will be shared in January for the remainder of the year.   All proceeds from our lunches go back to the CSCC for supporting school projects such as materials for MakerSpace and STEM projects!
  • St. Gregory Christmas Cards and Ornaments
    • Your child will have brought home our special gift to our St. Gregory families on Friday.  The youngest or only child in each family has a special envelope with your child's picture and a card from St. Gregory School.

Every classroom also made a Christmas ornament to hang on your tree!  Thank you again to our teachers, volunteer photographer, and students for helping us to wish you all a Merry Christmas!
Care Packages.jpg
  • Cards and Care Packages - THANK YOU!
    • Thank you for your overwhelming generosity towards our care packages for seniors at Qu'Appelle house!  There will be another update later this week when we get all the packages assembled.  Our hearts will truly filled with joy for all the donations.
    • The students made wonderful cards for all three of our causes.  We look forward to delivering these messages of love and joy to people who will need a little bit of extra cheer this season.

Weekly Prayer - Advent Week Three Prayer of Joy

Oh, King of us all.
I find myself standing before
your strength and splendor
watching, waiting
and filled with total joy.
You have lifted my mind in hope.
Now help me to open my life
the the coming of the Spirit.
I want to be like Mary, your mother.
Her wonderful courage and strength
inspire me to do the same.
She simply said Yes
and the impossible was done.
Thank you for this Advent journey.
The anticipation has filled my life
and made me long for
a closer relationship with you.
My life gets so busy that I forget to focus.
Thank you for guidance.
Thank you for the quiet moments
when I have felt your love.
Nothing will be impossible with God.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel!
