SWPBS Matrix 2019-20.docx
September 3, 2019
Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s),
This year we will continue our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) framework, that engages staff with all students in reinforcing positive behaviours in both classroom and non-classroom settings. If you are interested in learning more about SWPBIS, you can find information at www.pbis.org .
The behaviour expectation matrix has been developed by staff to promote positive student behaviour in all areas of the school. Students are encouraged to demonstrate respect, responsibility, and best effort throughout the day.
All staff acknowledge positive behaviours by providing students with verbal praise and feedback. In addition, these behaviours may also be acknowledged by giving students PBIS tickets. Tickets are collected and individual and/or classroom draws will be made at weekly and monthly assemblies.
The behaviour matrix is taught and practiced at assemblies and in classrooms with all students. Each classroom also has a posted copy and a copy is posted on our website for your reference.
Twice a year (fall and spring) we collect data on student behaviour using both internalizing and externalizing descriptors, through the Student Risk Screening Scale (SRSS). This information is confidential and is only shared with the student support team and individual classroom teacher. It allows us to address student and classroom needs through the Response to Intervention (RTI) model. If you would like to preview the data collection tool, please contact your school administration.
Our hope is that we can continue to promote school expectations in a positive and proactive manner and encourage student engagement by continuing to build staff-student relationships.
More information about SWPBIS and the opportunity to create a matrix for home will be shared at an upcoming parent event later in the fall.
