​Important Information for the 2019-20 School Year

Student Busing:

For the safety of themselves and others, students are expected to treat each other with respect and behave appropriately while being transported to and from school and while waiting for the bus. Bus service is provided by Transportation Solutions. Please review the Transportation Guide, found under Transportation – Bussing Information tab of our website, with your children.


The Regina Catholic Schools Transportation Officer is Elena Chase. If you have any questions about bus routes or changes, you may phone her at 306-791-7214 or email her at transportation@rcsd.ca.

You can access your child's bus information at https://bus.rcsd.ca. You will need your child's Student ID number (see your child's report card). If you are experiencing difficulties logging in, email your child's Student ID, birth date, school and grade to transportation@rcsd.ca for assistance. Check the portal regularly as bus times will change throughout the year as new students enrol.

 

Remember to monitor winter weather as buses will not run if the temperature reaches -45 C according to Environment Canada. See the bus information sheet provided for more information.

 

Attendance:

If your child will be away from school due to illness or appointments, or simply late for school, call the school at 306-791-1785 to let us know. With message manager, you are able to leave a message at any time, night or day. You may also choose to email the office at stkaterischool@rcsd.ca. If your child becomes ill at school, they must tell their teacher and an adult from the school will contact a parent or guardian.

Synervoice: Occasionally, we'll use Synervoice to email, text or call with important information.

 

Student Agendas: Each student in Grades 1 to 8 will receive a student agenda book. This book is used to help students develop organizational skills as well as establish a communication link with parents. Please encourage your child to use the agenda every day. In addition, our basic school expectations and procedures are in the front pages of the agenda.

 

Teacher Email: Feel free to communicate with your child's teacher through email. You'll find the Staff Directory under the "About our School" tab on our website.

 

​General Reminders:

Allergies: We have a number of serious allergies in the building. Please avoid sending nut and kiwi products to school.

 

Bell Schedule:

Classes Begin              8:45 

Morning Recess         10:15 – 10:30

Lunch Break                11:40 – 12:10

Classes Resume          12:25

Afternoon Recess      1:55 – 2:10

Dismissal                         3:20

 

Birthdays: We will acknowledge student birthdays during morning announcements and gift students with a pencil. We ask that parents or guardians wishing to further celebrate birthdays choose from one of the following two options:

  1. Small Token for Each Child in the Classroom (ex. stickers, erasers, etc.)
  2. Healthy and Easy to Serve Snacks (ex. fruit, veggie tray, muffins, etc.)

Please do not send products containing nuts or kiwi due to allergies. One of our goals is to encourage healthy food choices so your co-operation in not sending sugary treats is appreciated.

 

Clothing: Students are to dress in appropriate clothing that is suitable for the weather and represents the values we express in our Catholic faith. Clothing such as muscle shirts, open backs, spaghetti straps, bare midriffs, short skirts/shorts and bandannas are not allowed. In general, students are expected to have a clean appearance that is reasonable, modest, decent and respectable.

 

Doors: All doors, except the front door, will be locked during the school day. Children arriving late and guests visiting the school must enter through the front and report to the office. All students are to enter and exit using their assigned doors. Student entrances are on the north side of the school. At the end of the day, please meet your child outside near these doors.

 

Footwear: Students are required to wear shoes at all times while at school. This is necessary in case of an emergency evacuation of the school. 

 

Healthy Hunger: During the year, we host a number of special student lunches, clothing sales, etc. We use the website HealthyHunger to manage student orders and process payments. A link is on our website under the Community tab.

 

Meal Time: Students will have 30 minutes to eat lunch in their classrooms and 15 minutes of recess. We encourage students to bring healthy lunches and to avoid bringing products with nuts due to allergies. Children who stay for lunch on a regular basis will need a note from a parent or guardian for permission to leave school grounds during the lunch period.

 

Outdoor Supervision: We have supervisors on the playground at 8:30 a.m. Please have your children arrive after this time. Supervision is provided during all recess periods and after school until 3:35.

 

Parking:

  • Buses will drop off and pick up students on the south side of Albulet Dr. Please do not park in this designated area.
  • If you're dropping off or picking up students, use James Hill Rd., Albulet Dr. and Aerodrome Rd. Please note there are a number of no-stopping zones near fire hydrants, bus drop-off and pick-up zones and the crosswalks. If you park on the north side of Albulet Dr., remind your child to cross at the corner of James Hill and Albulet Dr. We do not want students trying to cross between buses.
  • Please don't park in the staff parking lot when dropping off your child at the beginning or end of the day.

 

Staff Meetings: Our weekly staff meeting is Wednesday morning from 8:00 – 8:45 and staff will be unavailable at this time.
