LEBOLDUS AREA GRADE 6 BAND

The LeBoldus Area Grade 6 Band has shown steady improvement.  I am so proud of how well the students are working together!   We have two big events just around the corner...

The first is the Optimist Band Festival on Tuesday, March 19, at the Conexus Arts Centre.  The group performs at 9:15 am.  YOUR FAMILY MUST DROP YOU OFF AT THE FRONT DOORS OF THE CONEXUS ARTS CENTRE AT 8:05 AM.  Students must arrive that day in their uniform with their instrument, music, snack money (optional) and picture money (if they wish to purchase a picture).  Picture information is included on a separate sheet in this memo.  Students can purchase a small snack at the concession stand so students may bring a small amount of money in their pockets if they wish.  If there is a problem getting a ride to the Conexus Arts Centre, please let me know immediately so we can find a way to get you there.

After warm-up, performance, clinics, adjudication, pictures, and snacks I estimate that we will be ready to leave the Centre around 11:10 am.  Buses will be provided for the students to get to their schools so parents do not need to return to pick them up.  This time is an estimate only because it's difficult to determine an exact time as the festival can run ahead or behind.

HELP NEEDEDFor the Optimist Festival, we will need at least 6 parent volunteers to help supervise the students.  Please email me if you can assist (there is no admission charge for parent supervisors).  If you plan on attending, please consider supervising – you just follow the band and help make sure nothing gets left behind.  We are always short on parent volunteers!  Aside from supervising, all parents, grandparents and friends are welcome to attend the festival. There is a $5 daily admission fee for adults; students and kids are free.  We would love to see lots of people in the audience to support us on this day!  If you do attend, you are welcome to slip into our workshop and be a fly on the wall to see the students working with an adjudicator.  Just slip backstage after our last piece and follow the band to the workshop room.  Make sure you go to the side where you see the kids exiting the stage.

Vests Students should make sure their vests are ready to wear on this day.  On the morning of the festival, make sure you are wearing your black pants, white long-sleeved dress shirt, black socks, and have your vest on.  Students will be required to pay $50 to replace a lost or damaged vest, so please take good care of them.  All vests will be cleaned over the summer.

PHOTOS:  At the Optimist Festival, students have the option of ordering group &/or individual photos.  Please do not return the orders to me before the festival.  On the day of the festival, one of the parent volunteers will accept each photo order with the attached cheque when you get to the Centre.  To ensure that you will remember your photo order and money, please put it in your instrument case the night before the festival.

Please read the attached photo information.  If you choose to purchase a photo, please bring the form/payment on the day of the festival (do not hand in forms/money to me prior to the festival).

Regina Catholic Schools 44th Annual Band Days

April 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 2019

The students are busy preparing for our upcoming festivals.  Band Days is a huge

undertaking – many of our students in the Regina Catholic School Band program will be participating (that's over 1,300 students!).

Many of our students are working on solos in preparation for Band Days (all taking place at LeBoldus).  Some students will not perform solos in order to focus on improving their regular weekly assignments.  All students must practice at home and work on their music, whether they are performing at Band Days or not.  The performance schedule usually comes out about one or two weeks before the festival.  As soon as the schedule comes out I will give the students their performance times.  Students playing solos or ensembles are responsible for getting to and from LeBoldus.  If you have difficulty arranging a ride, I can check the program to see if there is someone else from your school performing around the same time, and maybe those students could share a ride.  The solos/ensembles are during school time with a few running until 4:30 pm or so.

Aside from the solos and ensembles, there will be a concert to celebrate the 44th Anniversary of Band Days.  Although the LeBoldus Grade 6 and LeBoldus Grade 7/8 Bands will not be performing, students and their families are welcome and encouraged to attend as audience members if they are able.  The Grand Concert is on Saturday, April 13 at 7:00 pm in the LeBoldus High School Gym.  The concert will feature the Grade 7/8 Select Band, High School Honour Band, Outstanding Solo/Ensemble Performance, and the Award Presentations.

PRACTICING    Please keep encouraging your child to continue to practice and prepare for our upcoming events.  If your child hasn't been practicing much, it's time to start!  Every student plays a major role in how we sound, so each student must do his/her part by practicing.  The students are very gifted and I am sure they will be successful and enjoy their performances.  Please practice 20 minutes daily and write your times in your practice charts. Solos and ensembles were handed out in January and some students haven't started practicing them yet.  Students must come to sectionals prepared so we will be able to put the solos together with the piano accompaniment.

Our Band Parent Association is looking for volunteers and will need parents to fill some executive positions that will be opening up.  If you might be able to help out, please contact me for more information.  As well, we will require some parent volunteers during the Band Days Festival.  Grandparents are also very welcome to come and volunteer if they are available.  Please watch for further information on volunteering or contact me.

Thank you very much to the students for your cooperation and your steady improvement.  Keep practicing and keep up the good work!
