While there are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our city, or in our schools, Regina Catholic Schools is working on its planning to minimize any potential impact on our student and staff. Our Pandemic Planning Team is working with public health officials and the Ministry of Education to monitor the situation and prepare for possible outcomes.

Our focus is on the health and safety of our students and staff members. This requires that we all work together to limit exposure and transmission of the virus by increasing our personal hygiene habits. Staff members are reminding students about proper hand washing, and our care taking staff clean all surfaces thoroughly.

Based on the latest information provided to us by the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the Public Health Agency of Canada, Regina Catholic Schools is taking, or preparing to take, the following actions:

Student, Staff or Family members who become ill:

While the school division has no authority to implement quarantine or isolation requirements, nor is it currently recommended by health authorities, we strongly advise anyone who is feeling ill to stay at home.

Individuals who are in self-isolation should monitor their symptoms and immediately report worsening of symptoms to a health care provider or public health authority for further assessment.

School and Division-hosted events:

As of today, there is no indication from health authorities that local events need to be cancelled or postponed. However, we will address events on a case-by-case basis and our team will make an informed decision based on current information.

Travel:

We are not here to make decisions for you about international travel, but should you travel to affected areas, please remember the recommendations from the Saskatchewan Health Authority to self-quarantine for fourteen (14) days. While the school division has no authority to implement quarantine or isolation requirements, it is our hope that you follow the Health Authority recommendations. Missing two weeks of school upon return may have an impact on your child(ren)'s education, but it is necessary should you make a decision to travel.

Attendance:

In our schools, we continue to encourage good hand washing practices. Thank you for reinforcing this message at home. While we encourage good school attendance, please remember that if a student is ill, they should remain at home until they are well. We want all our students to be in class, well, and ready to learn.

Website:

There is more information available online at www.Saskatchewan.ca/coronavirus. This includes the most up to date information about COVID-19 for the public. We appreciate all our families accessing health care information from there, as we can remain confident this information is coming from experts on public health and infectious diseases.

Here are several documents from the Saskatchewan Health Authority:

Regina Catholic Schools wishes to assure our stakeholders that we are basing our preparedness planning and our decision-making on the guidelines and recommendations of government and medical officials with the training, knowledge, and expertise required to manage health concerns. We will continue to monitor the situation, put our plans into action, and provide updates as the situation changes and future decisions are made.

Our prayers are with all who are ill because of COVID-19 and all other sicknesses. We pray for their healing. We trust the Lord will guide all health care workers as they treat infected individuals with care, and share information to keep us all safe.

They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong. They are free from the burdens common to man; they are not plagued by human ills. ~ Psalm 73:4-5

God bless,

Regina Catholic Schools
